Hey everyone,

It's been a long time since I've posted anything on here.
But I'm back!
Since the last time, I got my bachelor diploma AND my master's degree, which I'm pretty proud of.
It's been two years of hard work, but with a lot of fun in between.
Here's a little update:
In my third year of studying illustration I really discovered gouache paint, at first it was hard working with a new medium, but I quickly grew to love it:
I ended up making illustrations for the novel "The Third Policeman" by Flann O'Brien:
(This book was obviously never published or anything, this was an assignment for school)

I graduated without a lot of problems and decided I wanted my masters's degree as well.
During my final year I only made one book, for which I made a little over 80 paintings, ending up using only half. (oh well)
It was a semi-autobiographical book, about losing someone you hardly know, who should be important to you, but you just don't really care. That's all I'm telling you :)

It was so much work, but really worth it, because I learned to commit to one thing and finish it, without growing tired of it (which was a really big problem for me).

I really feel like I can finally call myself an illustrator, an artist even.
After graduation I went back to living at home with my mom. I'm still drawing and painting and trying to figure out how I can make a living out of it. Which is another adventure I'm ready for!
Here's some of my latest work, I'll try to update a bit more often.
Thanks for reading!

padumdum

Hi everyone,
So the new schoolyear has really started now (it's practically over already)
and I'm enjoying it very much.
Here's some stuff I've made so far:

(this one looks like it isn't mine... but it is..)

(Very happy about this one)

(I tried to make a scary, sad graveyard, but as always, it turned out to be a happy drawing.. "YAAAY A GRAVEYARD!!!" is the first comment I had on this one.. oh well, there aren't many people who can say they have the gift to make even the most dark of places look like heaven)

boats.r.wsum.

Gonna stop putting comments under my drawings now.

Goddamnit blogger, why do you do this thing with my pictures making them allfedsfjoqsdjaosfx fuck you I'll just center them aarhdjs
So I guess you've already noticed but the assignment is landscapes..
I have some more, I'll add them sometime this week..
I know the pictures are really bad quality, but I'm too lazy to take these back to school to put them underneath the big scanner, so I just took some pictures...
We're supposed to make characters as well, but I'm kind of stuck with that..
I'm also working on a project that has: trams, me and monsters.
(You'll see,.. if I'm not too lazy to upload it)

What else? oh right, I've discovered that I love working on a large scale..
(the paintings/drawings above are all pretty much A3 sized, which is now small to me)

(Again, I'm sorry about the crappy quality, didn't have a choice with this one tho', it doesn't fit underneath the scanner)
This one is about 80x60 cm; something like that.. I think
And here are some details:

The colors are a lot warmer and nicer normally but my camera/my amazing photoshop talents messed it up... yes. I. suck. I'll get someone else to photograph my work next time...
I wish I wasn't this lazy.. Even now,.. the only reason I'm working on my blog is because I'm sick and bored.. Sorry about that!

This one is even bigger, but I have absolutely no idea how big exactly..
I don't know.. just imagine it really big. That should do it.
I tried a different atmosphere here.. I guess it worked.. kind of.

Ah yes! Haven't told you this either..
I've been working with ink a little over a year now I think,
and I love it.
So when my teachers suggested I could maybe try out gouache paint..
I was like: whuuuuttt? R u messin with me? Gouache is baby-paint! It's the stuff you use for fingerpainting... Not when you're in your last year of studying illustration..
(I never said these things ofcourse, this was all happening inside my head...
So I was a little sceptic at first,
but I went to the store anyway and got some gouache..
and boy oh boy oh boy was I wrong...
I loved it instantly.. (I've cursed it a couple of times since.. we broke up 5 times already but hey.. we're in love)
It has the brightness of ink but nice thing about gouache (which I missed in ink) is that you can adjust your mistakes, you can make layer, over layer, over layer, over layer, over layer!
(These last big drawings were done in gouache by the way)
And the combination ink-gouache (which I thought would be really weird) is kind of nice as well.

And one more thing: we're "building" (don't know how to say it really) a real website in class, so if I like that one better than blogger, I might move.. not sure tho, because it's with a program for which you have to pay.. or download it illegally (which I would never do, like ever! ever! NEVER! I'm a good girl) so I might stay here as well.. we'll see :)

I'll add some more stuff this week
bye.

"Soulmates"

So, I just found out, that a project we did last year in school, was online, so I thought I'd share..

My drawings are the colourful shapes and silhouettes..
The assignment was to make a very simple animation, which we thought would fit with the music that was assigned to us. I'm not particularly pleased with mine, but what the hey!
We were also given a partner, mine was Annelies Vanherck, a very dear friend of mine.

Go check out her blog!!: http://vanherckannelies.blogspot.be/

Also, here's some other friends of mine, who are amazingly talented and make me feel small in their presence.. (but in a good way, guys! And, I never said this! I'm only putting things like this on my blog so people think I'm nice.. I don't even like you guys... ) But I make up for that by being the loudest one of us all... Which.. is ALSO a talent.
So please, click the links and be amazed! (DO IT!)

Thijs Desmet:

Obviously I have more friends than that, but they either don't have a blog or I don't know it!
(Or I don't want to put it on here... *innocent face*)

Anywho.. This Friday, the exhibition "Nervous Women" is opening at the Guislain Museum in Ghent..
I'll be there and look proud of myself. 'Cause although it's just one drawing in the book and the exhibition, it's big for me and I never thought anyone would ever want to hang my work in a museum, let alone print it in a book. So hooray!

yes.yes.YES.

 Hello hello hello world.
I just wanted to share my happiness with the rest of the world!
I love school. I do.
Coming soon:
* A picture of me and the book "Nerveuze vrouwen"
* Some REALLY REALLY big drawings/paintings
* Plant-studies
*Some nude model drawings
* a lot more...
I just have to get my hands on a scanner.
It's nice to be working again!
I feel like I'm actually taking big steps towards being a "real" illustrator this year,
concepts start popping up in my head, and I actually get to them and finish them now!
I'm pleased! so so so very pleased.
Ofcourse I still need a lot of practice, but I'm working really hard, and I'm actually liking it now. No more concentration issues or lack of interest, I'm going for it!

That's all.

You would have never guessed! MORE DRAWINGS!

Hello,

Here's some more drawings I made recently..
(for a school assignment)

I'm sorry the pictures are scattered all over, I'm too lazy to put them right.
I like the king best.. He's a shy king, with chubby cheeks, which makes him amazing.

School is starting tomorrow, and while I was looking forward to it in the first place, I'm not so thrilled about going back now. Things are confusing already.. I wish there was a school where I could just draw five days a week and nothing else. Unfortunately, there is no school like that. And... I know other stuff is important too.. I just don't like learning and sitting in a classroom all day, it makes me sleepy.
Also, our location changed and although it's a really nice building, it isn't really prepared to have art students in it... We'll be working on the floor for a while I think.
That was boring, I'm sorry if you read it.
Annnywayyyyyy, I hope you like my little characters. Don't know about it myself,
I think my 'style' is getting really fluffy and cutesy and I'm not so sure if I like it.
I might.. I'll think about it. These things happen. Thing is, I really like it when other people draw more realistic and with more atmosphere.. While my own drawings are well, weird and clean.

Also this is me, today:

Peace out.
